# Kamikochi

A pristine glacial valley at 1,500m in the Northern Japan Alps, completely closed to private vehicles. The Azusa River runs turquoise through a flat valley floor flanked by peaks over 3,000m. The 5km walk between Kappa Bridge and Myojin Pond is achievable with children of most ages and consistently ranked among Japan's finest walks.

## Insider Tips
Access is by bus or taxi from Matsumoto (about 90 min). The flat valley floor trail is genuinely easy — even 4-year-olds can manage Kappa Bridge to Taisho Pond. Morning light on the Hotaka peaks is spectacular. Stay overnight in one of the valley lodges to experience sunrise before day-trippers arrive.
