# Matsumoto Castle

One of Japan's few original feudal castles — not a reconstruction. The six-story black-lacquered tower, nicknamed 'Crow Castle,' dates to the late 16th century and stands directly reflected in the surrounding moat. The interior climb through original steep wooden staircases is genuinely exciting for older kids. Matsumoto city is a graceful base for the Japan Alps.

The surrounding park is ideal for a picnic. Matsumoto has excellent soba restaurants within 10 minutes walk.
